Plymouth College of Art
Costume Production and Associated Crafts
I am an aspiring costume designer and maker who would like to eventually work on television and film productions. My main areas of knowledge are science-fiction and fantasy, and I hope to one day work within these types of genres. I am confident with both designing and making and have plenty of knowledge and experience surrounding those two areas. So far I have mainly focused on costumes that would be aimed at science-fiction related productions, but I am open to working in a wide variety of genres. Marvel and Star Wars productions have been great sources of inspiration for me and have a positive impact on my mental health. I have particular skills in embroidery, felting, millinery and various other forms of construction.
TR2 Plymouth (2018) - As part of my course, I helped to make costumes for TR2 for the Mayflower 2020 celebration. Here my skills of interpretation were put to the test, and I got to use new and exciting materials. Silvia Prandini, Milliner (2018) - Whilst working alongside milliner, Silvia Prandini, I learnt various techniques associated with millinery, and I used these skills to help create a witch’s hat following a client brief. Glastonbury and Street Musical Comedy Society, The Addams Family (2019) - I operated the follow spot for Glastonbury and Street Musical Comedy Society’s production of the Addams Family at Strode Theatre, where I was able to experience using a headset and operating as part of a unit. Marjons University, Measure for Measure (2019) - As part of my course, we created costumes for Marjon's production of Measure for Measure and I assisted as a dresser backstage during rehearsals and performances. Bath Theatrical Costume Hire (2019) - I also assisted Bath Theatrical Costume Hire, where I got to learn about hiring costumes and general costume maintenance.
