Biography
I am Amelia, a photographer whose creative outlook is seeing the world differently, wanting to explore a multitude of ways to show the mundane and everyday. I am constantly wanting to make photography that people question and see individual meaning within. I am a portrait and event photographer, though in my personal work, I adore creating more conceptual portraits, bending reality and normality. I want each person to have a different experience of the same image. My biggest inspirations are Edward Hopper with his incredible painted scenes and compositions, to album covers, often from the 1980s, such as David Bowie’s Heroes; I adore the way it captures the subject and gives a portrayal of how they want the world to see them. While studying at Plymouth College of Art, I have seen myself shape into a well rounded and competent photographer. It has been amazing to feel my confidence in my practice, with both technical ability and personality, grow exponentially. The work I produce has gone from snap shots, to well constructed and thoroughly thought out works that I am proud to have in my portfolio. The support of my tutors has been unwavering and it’s enabled me to prove to myself just how hard I can work and how far I can go.
