Plymouth College of Art
Interior Decoration, Design and Styling
Hi, I’m Amy. Previously I have studied photography and fashion, photography fostered my eye for aesthetic and composition whilst fashion nurtured my love for design, this is what led me to the interior design field. My central focus in my work is the importance of wellbeing and the steps we can take in our spaces to improve it. Wellbeing is a strong focus for the majority of my body of work which has led to influence elements of nature and sustainable design. These themes and concepts are realised in my work through a variety of different practices, using 3d rendering software allows me to create lifelike models of the spaces I design. I often combine this with some crafted physical products to convey a strong sense of my concepts and design ideologies whilst creating a connection to my digital work. I love exploring many of the different areas in which interior design can be implemented from visual merchandising to hospitality focused spaces.
Throughout the course of my degree I have had the opportunity to work on live briefs. One of the first projects I worked on at the college was a re-design of the PCA café. I also designed a concept for Harrington Homes show home apartment in Plymouth which developed my client communication skills. As a part of a group project I designed and presented a concept for the DCRS space in Plymouth which helped me develop my management and teamwork skills. These all helped me build on my industry experience and progress my skill set in many diverse ways. Looking back at my time at PCA my skill set and creative practice knowledge has grown and developed over the course of the 3 years. I have learnt a lot about the direction I want to go in my design practice and my own personal style. I have learnt many technical skills that are transferable such as Adobe programs, particularly my graphic style in InDesign and 3D models in Blender to create photorealistic renders. Auto CAD for technical drawings and visual styling for images/ sample boards to communicate my design to a client.
