BA (Hons) Film
I am a Bulgarian female filmmaker with a passion for contemplative poetic cinema. I draw my inspiration mainly from the beauty and power of nature, as well as the depth and strength of human emotion. In my work, I try to document the world in the most impactful way I can - not as I see it, but as I feel it, and often through the use of symbolism, metaphors and minimalism. As a cinematographer, I pay great attention to composition and colour both in my stills and videos, and my greatest aim is to evoke an emotion and impact my audience in a memorable way. I am able to work effectively within most film genres but I believe that poetic, contemplative and arthouse cinema is what enables my individuality to shine the most. Similarly, I am able to perform duties within most areas on set, however I believe my skills come through the most when I am given a role either within the camera department or involving creative problem-solving and strong production management skills.
My film practice is varied - ranging from freelance work on National Lottery-funded projects to multiple independent festival-selected short films. Some of the works I have shot and/or directed/produced have been selected for festivals such INDIs; The Lift-Off Sessions; First-Time Filmmaker Sessions; Melkbos Short Film Festival; Miami 4 Social Change. Some of my skills include: - Camera operation (Arri Alexa Plus, Blackmagic Ursa Mini 4.6K; Arri SR2; Panasonic AF100 and DVX200; Canon C100, Sony A7S and most DSLRs) - Editing and colour-grading on Adobe Premiere Pro + knowledge in After Effects, Audition, Lightroom; Logic Pro X, Final Cut Pro and DaVinci Resolve - Gaffer, Grip and Location Sound recordist basic skills and knowledge - High level of spoken and written multilingual communication (Russian, Bulgarian, English) - Money management skills and customer service experience (part-time retail worker)
