BA (Hons) Filmmaking
Jessica Friedman is a recent graduate from the University of Plymouth where she studied BA (Hons) Film and Television Production. Her most recent experience in the industry includes working on a collaborative project as a co-writer for Imperfect Cinema’s Home of Movies event. Studying on the filmmaking course has allowed Jess to develop transferable skills in research and creative development of content, collaborative working, and knowledge of the latest filming technology and software. Throughout the degree, Jess has had an interest in all aspects of filmmaking and production, particularly a passion for screenwriting. She enjoys writing in most styles but finds herself drawn to more drama and social-realist narratives. Writing is something that she has been able to explore through working on scripting projects in her own time and in various student films where Jess has worked in the roles of not only a writer, but also a 1st assistant director, and camera operator.
Imperfect Cinema - 2020 Jess worked collaboratively on a live brief for Imperfect Cinema which required teams to pitch, develop, and create content for the Home of Movies event. Jess was in the role of co-writer for an immersive installation project. She was part of scripting a 1940's style newsreel, developing the character, and narrative. In order to further develop content, Jess had to also conduct extensive research into the subject area. Freelance Writer - 2020 Jess has spent time working as a freelance writer, which entailed writing short-film, tutorial videos, and product advertising scripts for clients. She has also worked with clients to develop their own scripts through assessing, and providing feedback on their projects.
