PREPARED - Graduate Collection
My final collection is designed for the ‘Woman who always has to be prepared for everything’, a response to today’s turbulent and unpredictable world. It has evolved to become an extension of my own feelings and reactions to my experience in today’s world.
PREPARED - Research Page
I was inspired by the 1960’s as I began this project by looking at myself and my family, specifically my grandparents that came to Britain in the 60’s as part of the Windrush.
PREPARED - Customer Profile
It is important to recognise the customer who are creating your collection for, in my case she is an extension of myself in many ways. I drew from my own need to always feel prepared all the time for anything that may happen that day, no matter how impractical it may seem to be.
PREPARED - Design Process
It has evolved to become an extension of my own feelings and reactions to my experience in today’s world. It will be made up of a series of functional garments marrying sixties silhouettes and detailing with a contemporary utilitarian aesthetic.
PREPARED - Design Devlopment
I was also inspired by the fashion of the 60’s as it was very forward thinking and a time when function really became significant in womenswear due to the Space Race.
PREPARED - Construction and Technical Work
My collection is situated in some non-specific point in the future, giving it a dystopian feel, where we are feeling the consequences of climate change and border control, and the wearer must be prepared for any number of unpredictable situations.
PREPARED - Construction and Technical Work
In such uncertain times (politically/environmentally/culturally) I have looked to the past for solutions and to bring peace of mind to the wearer by creating highly functional clothing that allows them to be prepared for everything and anything they may encounter.
PREPARED - Final Photoshoot
It is the details that really shine in this collection so I wanted to ensure the photoshoot highlighted that and the garments capabilities.

PREPARED - Final Photoshoot
Each garment has different functional elements to it, and the collection can be mixed and matched up depending on the needs of the wearer.

This was one of the first pieces I made in the collection, it is a plastic mesh coat in a bold silhouette. We shot this just as the sun was going down and it appeared to bring the fabric to life. The fabric was shimmerng and moving in ways that seemed futuristic and space age.

PREPARED - Final Photoshoot
It was important for me to shoot the collection on location as opposed to in a studio type setting so that they could be seen how they were intended to be used and moving in situations they were made for.

PREPARED - Final Photoshoot
There is a lot of curved and circular design details seen throughout the collection. This is a nod to the sixties and space age fashion it is inspired by.

PREPARED - Final Photoshoot
This was my first time making a really colourful collection. In my everyday life I am a great lover of colour but my work always seemed much more toned down and focused on detail. So this project was me marrying those two parts of my life.

Shooting on location can be unpredictable, but it was important for me to capture and keep in those unpredictable moments as they are consistent with my tone of fun and quirkiness that runs throughout the collection.
