A focal point to the building is its timber roof, dating back hundreds of years, the design aims to respect this while allowing it to glow in all of its beauty. Specially angled spotlights highlight the beams, while table lamps provide pockets of intimacy within tables. Floor lamps present medium height lighting, while a key design feature - the bespoke bath chandelier, provides much-needed light, but also a talking point on the history of bathtub gin. All lights are connected to a Rako lighting system, allowing for certain scenes to be recalled at the press of a button.

Unlike the main bar area, this room has standard heigh ceilings, to help create excitement in this space the striking botanical wallpaper has been used on the ceiling. Three Delta Light Underloop lights have been used which really highlight the colours in the wallpaper, contrasting off from the dark blues and greens that make up this scheme. This area is perfect for big groups, featuring a huge welcoming sofa and collection of lounge chairs its the perfect space for gatherings.

The Bar room is intimate, cosy and atmospherically lit, perfect to retreat to after dinner. Unlike the other three rooms, the bar looks out to sea rather than onto Plymouth, providing the most breathtaking sunsets. The room features a collection of tub chairs to relax in and enable the diner to enjoy sea views whilst enjoying one of the special digestif cocktails.
The Well-Being Apartment
Focusing on human Well-Being, this project provides a set of Well-Being standards for residential spaces and the design of The Well-Being Apartment, a one-bed flat which aims to improve the users Well-Being. As urban populations are rapidly growing, the average size of a city home is decreasing, public spaces are becoming overcrowded, buildings are being built taller and farther away from nature, pollution is ever more apparent and consequently, Well-Being is swiftly decreasing. Many factors come hand in hand with urban life that unfortunately, don’t contribute positively to our Well-Being. A lot of these factors can’t easily be fixed, however, we do have control over our homes and the ability to improve how we build, decorate and use our homes so that we can try to maintain our Well-Being.
The Well-Being Apartment
A bedroom should be a comfortable space so that a good nights sleep can be achieved, but also a functional place that can allow the users mind to be at peace. Therefore, highly functional storage has been specified that keeps items out of sight and organised, including a bespoke wardrobe behind a stud wall and a dressing table and full-length mirror with concealed storage sections. A bespoke mural has also been used, working as a positive distraction behind the bed, pulling patterns and colours from nature so that positive thoughts are at the forefront of the users mind.
The Well-Being Apartment
Instead of being a place purely to wash, the bathroom in The Well-Being Apartment is a wellness hub, a place to feel relaxed and rejuvenated. To help achieve these feelings, it’s finished all over in Tadelakt, a highly durable finish synonymous with Moroccan hammams, which are public steam rooms, considered a luxury ritual aimed to soften the skin while relaxing tired muscles. This finish is used in Wellness centres and spas all over the world. By using this spa-like finish in the bathroom, it should help to create a zen-like atmosphere to aid the user not just to cleanse their body, but clear their minds and help balance out the stresses of everyday life.
The Well-Being Apartment
As urbanisation continues at a rapid rate, homes are getting smaller and a key problem facing many occupants in urban places, is the lack of functional storage, causing cluttered spaces which aren’t good for mental or physical Wellness. Research has shown that those with cluttered homes have reported a decrease in life satisfaction. To provide a solution for this, I have designed a bespoke wardrobe, located behind the stud wall in the bedroom, it’s fitted with a range of different storage options to ensure sufficient storage for all items, with longer sections for dresses, drawers for jumpers and underwear, higher storage, sections for suitcase, duvets and other items.
