Biography
I’m Becca of Brealy Illustration. Hailing from a small Mid Devon town, I moved to Plymouth to study Illustration as a mature student. I’m passionate about dark illustration, alternative art and I’ve always felt at home sauntering on the macabre side.
I remember looking at Quentin Blake's illustrations of The Twits when I was younger and was intrigued with how he created these grotesque characters. Even today I am constantly inspired by horror themes and the unusual. I have found my home creating art inspired by gruesome histories, mythology and the occult. My go-to tools of the trade would be pen and ink - I just love the honesty of working with raw and unedited mediums. It’s hard to recreate the subtle fallout of ink from a slightly worn nib or the way ink behaves on differing paper quality.
Industry Experience
I have worked as an intern at Studio 102, a local not-for-profit art studio. I gained valuable experience in the day-to-day operations of a studio; hosting events and exhibitions, and overseeing their social media and networking platforms.
I also had the opportunity to participate in the Plymouth Art Weekender event in 2018 with a live art demonstration, where the public were invited into the exhibition space to watch local and international artists work. It was such an amazing feeling to get involved in the local art scene as an artist.
