Plymouth College of Art
Painting, Drawing & Printmaking
I’m a graduate from Plymouth College of Art with a degree in Painting, Drawing and Printmaking. I consider my work to be both expressive and emotive, with clear inspiration from abstract expressionism. My ongoing practice encourages me to develop my own personal response to abstraction. My practice determines to question common preconceptions of painting, moving away from the two-dimensional surface and drawing interest from theoretical approaches surrounding the concept of both materiality and deconstruction. Thorough research and experimentation have drawn me to approach work more recklessly, with a drive to work in ways I would not otherwise have considered before. My newfound appreciation for textiles has encouraged me to incorporate more materials into my paintings, as well as using sewing as a method of drawing. My work now incorporates varying artistic approaches and methods, combining painting, sculpture, and fabric to draw a new aesthetic focus.
I have previously exhibited work in the Art Mill Gallery in Plymouth, and Artizan Gallery in Torquay. I have produced numerous commissions, ranging from abstract paintings, tattoo designs, portrait paintings, and also designs for Torbay Hospital when they were putting together ideas for redesigning different parts of the Hospital. Specifically, I created designs for the hospital’s bay view cafe and rose garden. I have also donated work to the Health and Wellbeing room in Torbay Hospital.
