Biography
I am, primarily, a 2D artist (both traditional and digital) who hopes to break into the games industry with supplemental 3D skills and experience in film, public art, app and game projects. Over the past couple years I have gained experience as a 3D artist, graphic designer, animator, project lead, and 2D artist on a number of pre-career projects, and I am excited to put this experience to use whenever I can in the industry. My love of art is found between inspiration (architecture, fashion, philosophy etc...) and the process itself; the combination of these elements ensures that I will always be motivated and determined to produce work that I am proud of. Beyond games and film, I also enjoy reading, cycling, hiking, archery and collecting music.
Industry Experience
"Rerouting" - Short Film for BBC New Creatives - 3D Artist
As part of a short film for the BBC New Creative program, I was asked to sculpt the heads of two actors ready for use in a fictional transport app. This project presented a number of challenges for me to overcome:
- I was under a very short deadline, producing both sculpts in 3 days despite limited experience.
- Issues and feedback needed to be communicated to creatives with little to no understanding of 3D modelling.
- I was working from a remote location for people I was unfamiliar with.
In spite of these challenges, I delivered all of the work by my deadlines and the short film is now available to view on BBC iPlayer.
Illuminate Festival 2019 - Costume Design/Game Arts Collaboration - Animator & Project Lead
For a light festival in 2019, I lead a group of students in the creation of a collaborative projection mapping installation, for which, I created animations, organised the team, set up the installation and acted as liaison. Through this project I became more familiar with:
- Adobe After Effects and Projection Mapping
- Public Installations and Organisation
- Team Management and Conflict Resolution
The success of this project also led me to becoming more involved with Illuminate festival and the Real Ideas Organisation (RIO).
Game Jams - Plymouth College of Art - Concept Artist, Game Designer, 3D Artist & Illustrator
At my university, we were regularly given the opportunity to take part in Game Jams and I have thrown myself into each one enthusiastically. The experience has been invaluable:
- Working as part of a communicative pipeline from concept to final game.
- Creating art that is congruous with the work of my peers towards a unified aesthetic.
- Maintaining focus and quality under intense time constraints.
These experiences not only reinforced core skills, they also reaffirmed my passion for the industry.
"Drinks Buddy" - App Design - Graphic Designer
Over the first lockdown, I worked with a computer science student on his app, "Drinks Buddy" which is intended to help users have safe nightlife experiences. My role mainly consisted of designing the visual elements such as UI and graphics. This experience was particularly valuable for a number of reasons:
- We acted as designer and client, allowing both of us some experience of professional freelancing relationships.
- Feedback was regular and deadlines were fast, encouraging me to be more confident and efficient in my work, both then and now.
- My designs were being imported or translated regularly and it was extremely rewarding to see the results of our work.
Going forward, we intend to produce more apps together and already have some in progress, compounding this experience with further learning.
