University of Plymouth
Hi I’m Sarah Boot, a Bristolian multi-disciplinary designer with an interest in unusual and playful design. Taking a multi-disciplinary approach to design has allowed me to explore working both as a hands-on maker and creating within the digital world, where I have found most enjoyment in metalwork, ceramics and graphics. I believe design is special when the process or the end result can bring you joy.
During my time at university I took many extra-curricular opportunities that helped widen my view of design. After winning the OWP International Eyewear Competition I was able to attend an internship in Germany where I worked with the design team, marketing and advertising and prototypers learning lots about design from a varity of stages in industry. Other extra-curriculars I attenderd were the BETA Enterprise programme and Techstarts StartUp Weekend which gave me a business perspective which I think is a really important area to be familiar with as a new designer. One design project included winning the proposal for the University of Plymouth Society and Sports Trophies. As a team we created a design and took it through to production, to be used as the official trophies of that years awards ceremonies. This took a great deal of persistence and time management to get all 8 trophies ready for the event. I have taken on responsibilities within the course and been an active participator in fundraising, event organising and representation for students as a student rep. I like to be engaged in the working environment.
